The Practice of Mindful Yoga: A Connected Path to Awareness

By Hannah Moss

Most people have heard of yoga, even if they’ve never stepped onto a yoga mat themselves. But what is the true meaning of yoga and how can we bring more awareness into our yoga practice? The Practice of Mindful Yoga explores the connection between yoga and mindfulness, offering practical exercises to help both beginners and experienced practitioners live a more mindful life both on and off the mat.

Through insightful ideas and personal anecdotes, I explain the ways in which mindfulness is fundamental to yoga and how the breath becomes a bridge between the two. I invite you to join me on an inspiring journey of self-discovery and conscious awareness through the enriching practice of mindful yoga.

What is yoga?

Did you know that yoga asana – the physical posture practice – is only one of eight limbs of yoga, as identified by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras? The other seven limbs refer to how we conduct ourselves in the world, how we interact with others and how we focus the breath and the mind.

This is the true meaning of yoga – how we unite the body, mind and breath; how we take what we learn on the mat and integrate it into our lives off the mat; and how we can live enriching, meaningful lives with awareness, compassion and purpose.
